An officer in the Northern Front Command in the Israeli army warned of the possibility that the Lebanese “Hezbollah” would carry out an attack in the “near future,” according to what was reported by the newspaper “Israel Hayom”.
The officer emphasized that the Israeli army would respond with unprecedented severity to an incident of this kind, other than not shooting at a “Hezbollah” cell that crossed the border last July.
Regarding the reason for not eliminating the “Hezbollah” cell that crossed the borders, he said: “The decision is complicated, and it was taken from the conviction that if we eliminate the cell, the matter will lead to a massive escalation. This is not its time. But it is important to understand: This is the first time since the withdrawal from Lebanon is preparing to absorb and eliminate a cell. “
He added, “The northern border is approaching an escalation incident, even days of combat … I am convinced that there will be an accident in the area that will be more powerful than the” Har Dov “(Shebaa Farms) incident, which may lead to casualties. It results in significant casualties, and this requires us to be prepared. The probability of events is rising.
The Northern Command in the Israeli army considers that the escalation began in September 2019, when Hezbollah militants targeted an Israeli military outpost and patrol, before an Israeli raid in Syria last July resulted in the death of a Hezbollah member and promised to respond by killing Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli army claimed that “Hezbollah” tried to take revenge twice, the first in July and the second in August, and the Israeli officer said, “This incident is not over. We are fully prepared from then until now.”
