The Israeli painter, Edo Marcus, said that he “does not like the former US president, Donald Trump,” but confirmed that he is fascinated by the “tragic personality of Trump” now, as he painted more than 120 paintings about him.
Marcus’ drawings of Trump feature a mysterious and gloomy face, and a figure with blonde hair.
The Israeli painter believed that “he is not a person who needs drama to paint, and he does not need war or love, but he needs a journey,” considering that Trump’s drawing was “an enjoyable journey.”
The walls and floors of Marcos’ studio in the northern coastal city of Haifa are littered with pictures of the former US president.
Marcus called the selfie series “The Newbie”, based on the name of the reality TV show that contributed to Trump’s popularity.
The Israeli artist indicated that he was shocked by Trump’s candidacy for the elections in 2016, and said that he “could not believe it,” noting that after Trump’s success in reaching the presidency, he felt “horrified”, and that he was “shocked by the way the Republicans treat people.” And minorities. “
While he explained that he “could not take his eyes off the orange-faced and yellow-haired man,” whose brief image and prose have inundated television networks and social media for more than four years.
He stated that his first drawing of Trump, drawn in haste, was followed by about 120 works of the former US president, in oil paint on canvas and wood, and these drawings depict a “man with a mysterious face,” while Trump’s silhouette can be instantly recognized.
“The first paintings were color and much faster,” added Marcus, who attended art school in both his native United States and his current country, Israel.
He noted that the number of paintings he paints has become “pathetic,” after Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol earlier this month, and after his election defeat to Democratic US President Joe Biden.
Marcus continued, saying: “Now I feel that he is a tragic character, he has become a complex person, instead of an image, instead of an icon.”
