DM Shipping, the operator of the “Hankook Kimi” oil tanker flying the South Korean flag, said today, Tuesday, that it has requested the protection and compensation insurance company, known as P&I Insurance, to conduct a field investigation to verify the situation of the tanker, sailors and others.
An official in the operating company said that this step aims to take measures to find out “whether there are problems on our side,” adding that the insurance company will send an investigator to Iran to verify whether there is marine pollution and that the crew of 20 sailors, including 5 South Koreans, Safely.
For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that according to the initial reports it received from the local authorities, the matter is a technical one, and the oil tanker was arrested by order of the court to conduct an investigation into its pollution of the sea.
Hancock Kimi was on her way from the port of Jubail in Saudi Arabia to the UAE, and was detained on Monday by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
