Analysis of electoral reform will begin next week

This Thursday, with 8 votes in favor, 5 against and zero abstentions, the Board of Directors of the Constitutional Points Commission agreed to authorize the presidency of this Commission to convene its members next week for a plenary session to become a permanent meeting and thus begin with the analysis of the opinion of electoral reform.

The foregoing will be jointly with the Political-Electoral Reform, and Governance and Population commissions.

In a meeting, the president of the Constitutional Points Commission, deputy Juan Ramiro Robledo Ruiz (Morena), said that an attempt will be made to rule on all the initiatives that exist in the matter; Next week the legal and regulatory term would begin so that the three commissions could discuss and, where appropriate, vote on an opinion that is later taken to the Plenary for constitutional effects.

Later, the deputy Robledo Ruiz maintained that it will probably be in the first days of next week, tentatively on the 22nd or 23rd, to learn about a draft constitutional reform opinion on electoral matters, and go the next week to discuss it. and vote on it, and depending on the times, it would be passed to the Plenary so that the Jucopo and the Board of Directors decide when to list it, so that it can be discussed and voted on in the Plenary.

At the same time, he rejected that this constitutes a so-called “albazo” by Morena, since the proposal of the head of the Executive in the matter has been around for a long time, and the opinion will be distributed with the regulatory term so that it can be studied and can go to plenary .

untimely process

On the subject, Deputy Salvador Caro Cabrera (MC) said that his parliamentary group is against authorizing the Constitutional Points Commission to process the reform, because the legislative process is totally inappropriate, since we are very close to the electoral process.

In addition, the also secretary of the Constitutional Points Commission, accused that the PRI and the PAN are going to “process” the electoral reform project that will be sent by “the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) to the Chamber of Deputies, in the next few days.” .

While he criticized the “silence” of the PRI and the PAN, before the start of the discussion in the Commission.

“I don’t know if they remain silent, as happened today in the Board of Directors of Constitutional Points, turning their backs on all Mexicans who are against democracy being distorted and the INE being undermined,” he added.

For his part, the parliamentary leader of Morena announced that the presidential initiative on the matter will be voted on in plenary session on November 29, since it is expected to be the one that is ruled on in commissions if no agreement is reached with the groups of opposition.

As stated by Ignacio Mier, the only prediction that exists on an electoral reform and which is expected to be presented for consideration by the Political Electoral, Constitutional Points and Governance commissions, on November 23, is made up of the initiative presented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and contains no changes.

Likewise, the PRD accused that the agreement to process the electoral reform is violated, since 22 days ago the working group was installed to analyze the issue and they have not met.

The vice coordinator of the PRD, the deputy Elizabeth Pérez Valdez, pointed out that in view of the recent statements by the coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of Morena, “it is to be expected that the ruling party presents its draft opinion without agreeing with the opposition.”
