(CNN) — The son of actress Angela Bassett posted an apology after receiving backlash for a viral video in which he told his parents that actor Michael B. Jordan had died.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire family of Michael B. Jordan, to his extended family and to him directly, as he is an idol to me,” Slater Vance said in an apology video on his Instagram account.
“Participating in a trend like this is completely disrespectful. I don’t want your family or my parents to receive any bad consequences for my actions, as they don’t deserve any of the backlash,” Vance said.
In the 27-second Tik Tok video, actress Angela Bassett and her husband, actor Courtney B. Vance, are in a room with 16-year-old Slater, who is heard asking his parents if he’s out yet. learned of the death of actor Michael B. Jordan. Bassett, who is clearly in shock after hearing the news, is seen approaching her son as if she wants to see where she is reading the news.
The video, which has since been deleted, does not show Bassett’s reaction to finding out he was being pranked.
The younger Vance prank was part of a viral Tik Tok trend in which users lie about the death of celebrities to their parents to see their reaction.
