Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adel Karah Ismailoglu, reaffirmed his country’s readiness to provide its expertise and help re-navigate through the Suez Canal.
Ihsanoglu stressed, “The ministry is ready to provide assistance with all means, including sharing expertise and information in the event that it receives a request, in order to re-float the delinquent ship and navigation in the Suez Canal.”
He pointed out that the accident “affects the entire global trade,” stressing that if the opening of the canal works is prolonged, “it will have long-term effects” on the logistical corridor.
The Turkish minister considered that re-navigating the Suez Canal “has become a top priority” for all maritime sectors.
He pointed out that insurance companies estimated the cost of the accident to the global economy between 6 and 10 billion dollars per week.
On Friday, Minister Kara Ismailoglu announced Turkey’s readiness to provide assistance in reshaping the delinquent ship in the Suez Canal.

The container ship “Evergiven” weighs 220 thousand tons, is 400 meters long, and carries hundreds of containers heading to Rotterdam from China.
Experts have estimated that it would take up to a week to liberate the ship in the best case scenario, but the process is likely to continue for several weeks.
