The application of Covid-19 booster vaccines, from the Moderna pharmaceutical company, to 2.7 million people in the country’s education sector will begin next Saturday, Jorge Alcocer Varela reported Tuesday.
The Secretary of Health said that the application of booster dose It will be carried out in two stages, first in 16 states and then in the remaining 16, without specifying in which it will begin.
This same week, he explained, the authorities will define which states will be considered in the first and second stages of application.
“It begins on Saturday, January 8 of this year and covers the estimate of 2.7 million people and will be done according to the logistics, call, added to that of (the Ministry of) Health, by the Secretary of Public Education, and it will start in 16 states with the first shipment, which is 1.27 million, and the second, which comes five days later, of the Moderna vaccine, with 16 entities remaining in this shipment, for a total application through Moderna vaccine ”
During the morning press conference at the National Palace, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, was not present, as every Tuesday, to report on the behavior of the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico, because he is sick.
Hence, Alcocer Varela was the one who reported that until yesterday, Monday, there had been an estimated 47,874 active coronavirus cases registered, corresponding to 1.1% of the total.
When talking about the situation of the hospitalization in Mexico, which he described as special, he explained that the Omicron variant is more contagious, but requires less medical attention and low mortality.
The occupation of general hospital beds nationwide was 15% until last January 3 and 11% in the case of beds with mechanical ventilators to care for seriously ill patients.
Regarding the anticovid vaccination strategy, he specified that 72 million 881,907 people have already been vaccinated with a complete scheme, a figure that represents 89% of the 82 million 91,136 vaccinated in Mexico.
A total of 149 million 382,709 doses of anticovid vaccines have already been applied.
