The Governance Committee, which is concerned with reviewing the papers of candidates for the positions of Chairman and members of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, announced that it will examine the papers submitted for the upcoming elections.
Five candidates for the presidency of the “CAF”, along with 16 candidates for the membership of the Executive Committee, were registered in the elections that will be held on March 12 in Morocco to elect a president and new members for the next 4 years.
In its statement, the Governance Committee stated that the five candidates who ran for president are Agustin Senghor, president of the Senegalese federation, Jacques Anoma, honorary president of the Ivorian federation, Ahmed Ahmed, the outgoing president of CAF, Ahmed Ould Yahya, president of the Mauritanian federation, and Patrice Mutsibi, owner of the club Sun Downs.
The committee indicated that it will organize a hearing in Cairo for the four candidates after Ahmed Ahmed was excluded and considered ineligible to run, on January 28, to conduct some checks on them before announcing the final decision on accepting their candidacy.
The list of candidates for membership of the Executive Committee included: Wadih Al-Jara` (Tunisia), Mustapha Eshula Raji (Liberia), Gabriela Hema Hamidou (Niger), Edwin Simeon-Okraku (Ghana), Adom Jibrin (Chad), Suleiman Wabiri (Djibouti), Isaias Gera ( Ethiopia), Faisal Ismail (Mozambique), Elvis Raja Shetty (Seychelles), MacLean Cortez Leachwithi (Botswana), Knizat Ibrahim (Comoros), Patricia Ragiriarison (Madagascar), and Lawson Hogban-Latre-Katie Idzuna (Togo).
The Governance Committee has received 3 other requests for the Executive Committee, but they require additional audits, from Mamadou Antonio Soare (Guinea), Seydou Mbombo Nagoya (Cameroon), Arthur de Almeida e Silva (Angola).
As for the candidates for the International Federation Council, eligibility will be verified at the level of FIFA bodies, and the results will be announced in due course.
