Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis confirmed at the team’s media day on Monday that he will wear protective eyewear for the rest of his career under doctor’s orders.
The decision comes after he underwent offseason surgery to repair a detached retina in his right eye. The injury occurred during an April 2 game when he was accidentally elbowed by teammate Daniel Gafford.
Although Davis’s eye appeared red, which he attributed to post-surgery eye drops, he assured reporters his vision is clear. He expects to have no limitations during training camp aside from the mandatory goggles.
Meanwhile, Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving provided an update on his rehabilitation from a torn ACL sustained on March 3, stating he is “right on schedule.” Head coach Jason Kidd added that Irving is progressing “quite well” but emphasized the team will not rush his return. A specific timeline for Irving’s comeback has not been established.
The Mavericks’ title aspirations for the upcoming season are closely tied to the sustained health of both Davis and Irving.
