Apple will cut production of its iPhone 14 Plus and increase that of the iPhone 14 Pro due to weak demand

Apple is cutting production iPhone 14 Plus and is increasing the iPhone 14 Promore expensive, due to low demand for the mid-range model, the market research company reported on Tuesday TrendForce.

The share of the most expensive iPhone 14 Pro series has risen to 60% of total production from the initially forecast 50%, and could rise to 65%, according to the report.

Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The TrendForce report points out that the increase in interest rates in the United States could curb consumer spending, undermining iPhone demand in the first quarter of 2023, which could cause production to fall 14% year-on-year to 52 million units.

Analysts have said in the past that the Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 14 were selling well, though demand for the base model, normally Apple’s best-seller, has been disappointing.

Apple was the only vendor in the top five to post shipment growth in the third quarter, improving its share of the global smartphone market to 18% from 15% a year ago, according to research firm Canalys.

The increase in share occurred despite the fact that the global market for smart phones was down 9%, according to Canalys.

Last month, the company said it would make its latest iPhone 14 in India, as the tech giant is shifting some of its production out of China to hedge risks stemming from rising tensions between Washington and Beijing.
