Buenos Aires, Feb 4 (.).- The Argentine market regulator is advancing in an investigation to determine if there was a leak of privileged information prior to the repurchase process of Argentine public securities that took place last January.
The National Securities Commission (CNV) reports in a statement that, by instruction of the Ministry of Economy, it has opened an investigation to determine “the possible leak of sensitive information regarding the Government’s decision” to repurchase public debt for around 1,000 million of dollars.
The operation was announced by the Ministry of the Economy on January 18 and two days later the Minister of the Economy, Sergio Massa, asked the CNV to open an investigation to determine the existence of possible leaks and speculative maneuvers in the sale of securities. public and identify the eventual beneficiaries of these possible maneuvers.
According to the regulator, the investigation includes convening informative hearings with capital market agents, such as with their clients, collecting and analyzing information on operations carried out in the weeks before and after the government’s announcement, and exchanging information with other foreign regulators.
“Currently our technical teams are working intensely to obtain concrete results that allow us to define courses of action in the shortest possible time,” the CNV said.
The investigation was requested by Massa after an unusual volume of operations was detected with the Global bonds that were the object of the debt repurchase in days prior to the public announcement of the operation.
The opposition has also requested in Parliament that these maneuvers be investigated.
