Arnold Schwarzenegger may be poised for a live-action return to the Predator franchise, reprising his iconic role as Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer from the original 1987 film.
During the Comic-Con panel for the upcoming movie Predator: Badlands, director Dan Trachtenberg hinted at future plans for the character. He told the audience he had a recent breakfast meeting with Schwarzenegger and intends to “cook up stuff for that guy.”
Although Schwarzenegger has not appeared in a live-action Predator film since the original, his character recently returned in an animated epilogue for Predator: Killer of Killers, which is now streaming on Hulu. Trachtenberg, who debuted the new scene at the panel, confirmed he received Schwarzenegger’s approval to use his likeness during their meeting. The epilogue features Dutch alongside other franchise protagonists, including Danny Glover’s Lt. Mike Harrigan from Predator 2 and Amber Midthunder’s Naru from Prey.
Over the years, the sci-fi horror series has expanded to include sequels, two crossovers with the Alien franchise, and the acclaimed prequel Prey. Badlands, directed by Trachtenberg and starring Elle Fanning, will be the newest installment and is set to premiere in theaters on November 7.
