‘I’ve got really bad vision from afar’: Mikel Arteta channels Arsene Wenger as he claims he COULDN’T SEE David Luiz ‘hitting’ Dani Ceballos in Arsenal training fight – and says ‘issues happen a lot’
- David Luiz, 33, and Dani Ceballos, 24, were involved in a training ground scrap
- Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta broke up the training match that took place last Friday
- Ceballos was left with a scratched nose but the duo have since apologised
- Gunners boss Arteta channeled his Arsene Wenger and said he couldn’t see it
As reported by Sportsmail, Brazilian defender Luiz, 33, had a scrap with his 24-year-old Spanish team-mate – who was left with a scratch on his nose following the altercation – during a practice match in training last Friday and had to be separated by Arteta.
Both players were sent home afterwards and forced to apologise to one another but Gunners boss Arteta – channelling his former boss Arsene Wenger – claimed he couldn’t see Luiz ‘hitting’ Ceballos and insisted the problem has now been resolved.
Mikel Arteta insists there is no issue between Dani Ceballos (left) and David Luiz (right) following their training ground-bust-up
Ceballos and Luiz clashed in training last Friday, with the former left with a scratch on his nose
Sources claim Luiz (centre) was unhappy with Ceballos’ (right) rough nature to young players
‘[It was] nothing [other] than training is competitive and issues happen a lot of times and those things get resolved immediately within the team and not much to say,’ Arteta said ahead of his side’s trip to Leeds on Sunday in their first game back from the international break.
Asked if there was now no problem with the pair, who have since apologised to each other, Arteta confirmed: ‘No problem at all.’
Luiz and Ceballos had to be separated by Arteta though he was keeping his cards close to his chest when asked if he saw what happened.
Gunners boss Arteta had to break up the training match and session following the incident
But in the style of former boss Arsene Wenger he claimed he did not see what happened
He said: ‘No, I’ve got a really bad vision from far. That’s why we train behind closed doors.’
‘There is no problem between the two. I’ve got a really bad vision from far’.
Sources claimed Luiz was one of the senior players who had repeatedly taken issue with Ceballos over his rough treatment of some of the younger players, which has already seen the on-loan Real Madrid midfielder fight with Eddie Nketiah on the campaign’s opening day.
The two players have since apologised to each other ahead of their clash against Leeds
Arteta also claimed not to have seen the incident between the Spain and England Under-21 internationals at Fulham, but unlike at Craven Cottage was forced to break up the session following the clash between Luiz and Ceballos, who have since apologised to each other.
With many of the Arsenal squad away on international duty, the training match involved senior players not selected by their national sides and players from the club’s academy.
The Gunners face Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Elland Road looking to recover from their humbling defeat by Aston Villa last time out and to score from open play for the first time in five games.
