As a defendant, they summon Pío López to the Fisel

The Specialized Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes (Fisel) of the FGR summoned Pío López Obrador, brother of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to appear as a defendant, as part of the investigation folder that began against him after the dissemination of videos in which he is seen receiving cash from David León Romero, supposedly to finance Morena.

This Tuesday it was announced that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), through the Public Ministry in charge of the case, sent an official letter to the Seventh District Court in Criminal Amparo Matters of Mexico City where it indicated that the past 14 October issued a letter for the brother of the Mexican president to appear formally.

The foregoing as part of the amparo filed by Pío López Obrador, and in which he demanded that Fisel resolve the investigation file against him, that is, that it inform whether or not it proceeds criminally against him.

“In the investigation folder FED/FEPADE/FEPADE-CDMX/0000380/2020 on October 14, 2022, a summons was issued to the accused Pío López Obrador, in order for him to appear before said Social Representation of the Federation, a procedure that was duly notified to the direct complainant as it appears that the authentic copies that he attaches to his official letter of merit, ”says the judicial agreement.

Background

It should be noted that the amparo filed by the president’s brother and that was granted in May of this year by the Seventh District Court of Amparo in Criminal Matters of Mexico City, ordered the Fisel to determine whether or not there are elements to continue with the investigation against Pío López Obrador.

Therefore, in a first response, last July, the federal Public Ministry proposed the Non-Exercise of Criminal Action against the brother of the president, and reserve the preliminary investigation, arguing that the Special Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes (Fisel) was unable to resolve the case definitively.

However, in early August, the body attached to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) decided to keep the case open, after the president’s brother acknowledged in several interviews that he did receive the money, statements that were considered as a new element of evidence to expand the investigations against Pío López and requested a period of 60 days to investigate the amount, origin, legality and destination of the resources, in order to decide whether to prosecute the investigation file.

Consequently, the federal Public Ministry has called Pío López Obrador to testify on three occasions.

It should be noted that the brother of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was reported to the FGR by federal legislators, after a video was released in which he is seen receiving cash from David León Romero, then a political operator for the governor of Chiapas. , Manuel Velasco and who later would occupy the position of coordinator of Civil Protection of the federal government.

At the same time, Pío López Obrador himself accepted having received the money as contributions to support the movement, which were used for minor expenses such as gasoline.
