The Asian Football Confederation decided to fine Jordanian national team striker Mahmoud Mardi $1,500 for raising a political slogan during the match between his country and Malaysia on Monday in the Asian Cup competitions held in Qatar.
Mardi, who scored a brace, revealed the slogan after scoring the first goal against Malaysia and wrote in it, “It is the cause of the honorable.”
The Moroccan coach of the Jordanian national team, Hussein Amouta, defended Mardi by saying in the press conference today, Friday, on the eve of facing South Korea in the second round of the fifth group competitions: “The position that Mardi took in the match is an expression that can be interpreted in several ways. He is a committed player from a technical and moral standpoint. “In my opinion, he scored the most beautiful goals in the tournament, and we all support him for what he did. The expression he used on his shirt does not harm anyone and is a human expression.”
