With the arrival of the new state administration of Maria Teresa Jimenez Esquivel and with the current project of achieving economic diversification, Aguascalientes has to take advantage of the nearshoring boom, economists agreed.

At a press conference, the Secretary of Gender of the Association of Economists of Aguascalientes, Daphne Viramontes Ornelasexplained that the entity must seek to become one of the most suitable markets for this type of real estate industrial logistics sector, it just needs to present the areas of opportunity that it has for belonging to the Bajío region.

“We are seeing that states like Guanajuato and Querétaro are seeking to be logistics leaders, Aguascalientes must go in this line, we must not miss an opportunity where the north of the country is being a leader,” he assured, Jael Perez Sanchez, regional vice president of the National Federation of College of Economists.

According to the specialists, the Bajío, contrary to the north of the country, is concentrating greater opportunities than the north in terms of energy, so they must promote the supply capacity that still exists, as well as the projects that are being generated, such as the expansion of the Aguascalientes International Airport.

“The airport is going to expand or at least it is planned to expand for operations that have to do with cargo transport, not passenger transport, but cargo transport and I think that this can be another factor that encourages investment here in the entity,” said Dafne Viramontes.

The economist specified that as part of this economic diversification, the new incoming government must see the sectors agribusiness and of research as closer areas of opportunity, since these can generate immediate positive impacts on the economy, since they generate employment and economic benefits.

“We continue with an economy that is fairly concentrated in the industrial sector, but above all concentrated in what has to do with the manufacture of transport equipment. Although production is growing at the national level, we are seeing that in the entity the main automotive company has not been able to recover economically, ”he stressed.

The president of the Association of Economists of Aguascalientes added that the research and production sector needs to be triggered by the current situation at the national level, where materials such as glass and plastics, which are used for packaging, are already lacking.

Pérez Sánchez recalled that as a College of Economists during the previous years they proposed to the government of Martin Orozco Sandoval different economic diversification plans, however, now with the governor a gap of opportunity is opened to apply them.

National Congress of Economy

The regional vice president informed that they will seek that by 2023 the National Congress of Economyjust this year it was held in Jalisco.

“Taking advantage of the fact that the president of the Federation was present, I told him that the next National Congress of Economy would be held in the region, representing the states of the north-central region, which are San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Aguascalientes and Zacatecas,” he stressed.

The event would be for the month of October and they would be arriving between 500 and 1,000 economists.

“Among the benefits are knowing the positions or postures of the economists, generation of development plans, development of indices. The different universities of this country would come, we would be inviting the state government, in this case the governor, to also participate and support this National Congress, which, in addition to being interesting, would become an economic benefit for the state,” he stressed.
