Hayley Raso and Claire Emslie both scored twice as Everton hammered Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League.
Australia international Raso opened the scoring from close range in the 20th minute, before pouncing on an error from keeper Lisa Weiss to make it two.
Emslie curled in the third from 20 yards before Valerie Gauvin’s diving header finished off a counter-attack.
Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah’s cross sailed in after the restart and Emslie added the sixth as Everton went top.
Willie Kirk’s side had been in superb form coming into this fixture, having reached the Women’s FA Cup final by overcoming WSL champions Chelsea and two-time cup winners Birmingham City in the previous six days.
And they were far too strong for Gemma Davies’ Villa side, who are still to pick up a point this season.
Raso was denied brilliantly by Weiss inside the first minute but made no mistake from Emslie’s low-cross to open the floodgates.
The 26-year-old was soon gifted a second, intercepting Weiss’ misplaced pass before burying a shot beyond the Villa keeper.
Raso then turned provider, with an assist to Emslie and crossing for Gauvin as the Toffees dominated the first period at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.
Villa grew into the game in the second half, but fell further behind when Boye-Hlorkah, who replaced Raso at the interval, mis-hit a cross which looped over Weiss and sailed into the corner.
Scotland forward Emslie grabbed her second and Everton’s sixth to finish off a resounding win, dribbling around the goalkeeper and passing the ball into an empty net.
Everton are three points clear of Arsenal, who could regain top spot on goal difference if they beat Bristol City on Sunday.
