It is noteworthy that the journey of light from the aforementioned galaxy to Earth takes about 9 billion years, that is, it is 9 billion light years from our solar system. But the universe was still expanding during that long period. This means that astronomers are now monitoring the state of the galaxy 4.5 billion years after the Big Bang.
A team of astronomers headed by scientist Anagracia Polisi from the University of “Dareem” in Britain studied photographs taken by the ALMA laboratory and came to the conclusion that cold gas, as a fuel for forming new stars, was rapidly exiting from the ID2299 galaxy 9 billion years ago at a speed equivalent to 10 thousand The mass of the sun in one Earth year, equivalent to about 46% of the total amount of gas in that galaxy, knowing that the process of the birth of new stars that also consume gas is still continuing in the galaxy.
Astronomers assumed that this would lead to the rapid death of the galaxy after tens of millions of years, which is a very short period for the age of the universe. They also assumed that the rapid exit of gas from ID2299 was preceded by a collision of two galaxies that caused the formation of the said galaxy.
A colleague, Anagracia Polisi, astronomer Daddy, believes that the astronomical discovery made by his team will force astronomers to reconsider the process of dying galaxies.
