The IAEA announced that “Iran has begun enriching uranium at the Natanz underground facility, using an advanced set of IR-4 centrifuges, in a new violation of the nuclear agreement.”
“Iran has made clear that it intends to install a second series of IR-4 centrifuges underground in Natanz, but it has not yet started,” the agency said.
“On March 15, 2021, the agency verified that Iran had begun feeding a series of 174 IR-4 centrifuges that were installed at the natural uranium hexafluoride fuel enrichment plant,” she said.
The Director-General, Rafael Grossi, announced earlier that the agency intends to launch a “technical dialogue” with Tehran on concerns related to its nuclear program.
Um revealed the first meeting within this dialogue, which is expected to take place in Iran in early April, expressing his hope that the Agency’s Board of Governors will be informed of developments in this regard by June.
These statements come against the backdrop of reports that Britain, France and Germany have abandoned a draft statement by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency condemning Iran, against the backdrop of its decision to reduce the level of cooperation with the agency.
