‘I was craving a workout, and I kept seeing people cycling past and felt like doing something,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
So he put in his earphones and ‘as a joke’ started running, first trying to run around the perimeter before sticking to doing lengths of the room.
‘I thought it would be for a few minutes, my wife was laughing at me, and then after a little while I decided it was all right, so kept going,’ he said.
He knocked out 11km in an hour and 15 minutes, and said he found it easier than an equivalent run outside because it is so flat.
He plans to have a rest day and then run 20km.
‘I thought it would be for a few minutes, my wife was laughing at me, and then after a little while I decided it was all right, so kept going,’ he said
He recorded the run so he could see how far he had gone – and was surprised he managed 11km
‘My ankles are really sore from turning,’ he said.
Mrs Bush also tried her hand at running, and does yoga in the corner of the room.
The health conscious couple said the food at the hotel was satisfactory – and they had been given a care package from their parents with more fresh fruit and a little bit of chocolate.
Mr Bush said he was shocked how different things are in Australia – after coming from America where people are ‘packing onto domestic flights’.
The hotel room is quite a modest size, but both Elizabeth and Kel are working hard to stay active with running and yoga
‘In LA and even New York where we were before it is normal living.
‘Our friends couldn’t believe we had to do a 14 day guarded hotel quarantine, because it is just self isolation over there,’ he said.
The couple have been tested for the virus and will be checked again before they leave in nine days.
