A DIY enthusiast has turned her dull and yellowed air conditioners sparkling white with a very simple trick.
Brisbane design blogger Renée transformed the wall-mounted units in her bedroom and home office with Rust-Oleum Satin Spray Paint, available from Bunnings online and in stores across Australia for $13.59.
In a video posted to her Instagram highlight reel, Renée – who posts under the handle ‘Coastal Hills Haven’ – revealed how she removed the detachable grate and sides of both machines, then sanded and scrubbed them with sugar soap and water.
Next, she stuck double-sided tape along the base of the units before slotting the sides and grate back in place and sanding down the fixed surfaces.

Renée finished by spraying each air conditioner with ‘two to three’ coats of paint, leaving it to dry overnight before removing the tape.
Unlike high gloss wall paints, Rust-Oleum spray paint sticks to plastic without peeling off – making it an ideal choice for faded fans, electricity boxes and air conditioners.
Clearly thrilled with the result, Renée called the project her ‘favourite’ to work on in 2020.
Photos of her handiwork – which have racked up 1,800 likes since they were uploaded to a Facebook group on December 29 – have drawn delighted responses, with comments including ‘wow’, ‘looks amazing’ and ‘great job’.
‘This is so satisfying, I could look at these photos forever,’ one woman wrote.

‘Brilliant would be an understatement,’ added a second.
‘Wow you’ve been busy! Well done and isn’t it amazing what a different some paint can make,’ said a third.
A fourth called Renée ‘very talented’ and said she would love her to transform her own air conditioners.
