Australians are being asked to take one ‘simple step’ to prepare for the Covid vaccine rollout that will begin next week.

All Covid vaccines will be logged on the Australian Immunisation Register, and Australians are encouraged to link their Medicare and myGov accounts to make it easier to track.

The registrations will allow the government to create vaccine certificates, which may be required for travellers wanting to head overseas.

‘Linking your myGov and Medicare digital accounts is a simple step you can take right now that will help you and your family be ready for a vaccinated Australia,’ Government Services Minister Stuart Robert told news.com.au.

Having proof of immunisation may be required for those wanting to travel overseas, as Qantas CEO Alan Joyce suggested travellers must prove they are vaccinated.

‘We will ask people to have a vaccination before they can get on the aircraft … for international visitors coming out and people leaving the country we think that’s a necessity,’ he said in November last year.

People are also encouraged to help older or less digitally savvy family and friends register their details.

Twenty million people reportedly have myGov accounts already and 9.9million are linked to Medicare, Services Australia said.

The government is not going to force aged care workers to get vaccinated, but strongly encourages all Australians to get the jab to protect the community.
