Australians searched for cavoodles more than any other dog breed in 2020, new research reveals.
Pet Insurance Australia analysed search engine data to identify the dog breeds most searched for online in 2020, and found the cavoodle – a hybrid of a cavalier King Charles spaniel and a toy poodle – took pole position as the country’s most popular pedigree.
French bulldogs and golden retrievers were close behind in searches for both male and female dogs, while border collies proved popular for boy pups and Labradors were a top pick for girls.
Meanwhile the groodle – a hybrid of a golden retriever and any type of poodle – was an unexpected favourite as the fifth most searched breed for female dogs.
A notable absence from the top 10 was the Staffordshire Bull Terrier or ‘Staffy’, which has long been one of Australia’s most popular breeds.

Archie – the one-year-old son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – was the top moniker for male dogs and cats.
Luna topped the list for females in both the cat and dog categories, while names like Simba, Casper and Indiana highlighted the influence of the silver screen.
Hunter, Leo and Bluey were the most popular names for male dogs while Alfie, Teddy, Ollie and Winston were popular for male cats.
Charlie and Milo gained in popularity for male cats and dogs, while Willow proved equally popular for girls in both pup and feline categories.
