Australia’s worst towns are ranked in a VERY tongue-in-cheek list with cities dubbed ‘feral’ and ‘cultural graveyards’ – so is your area on the list?
- Logan City in Brisbane’s south-east has gone ‘back to back’ as the worst town
- Nimbin in NSW was runner-up ahead of capital cities Adelaide and Brisbane

Australia’s worst towns have been named and shamed in a satirical social media post.
Popular Facebook page Sh*t Towns of Australia has developed a cult following online with its weekly town lists, with its 2020 Worst Towns of the Year eagerly anticipated for their 242,000 plus followers.
After winning the unwanted gong last year, Logan in south-east Queensland has gone back to back as the worst official town in the nation, ahead of Nimbin in NSW and South Australia’s capital city Adelaide.
Rounding out the top five were Brisbane and Port Pirie in South Australia.
Also featuring on the tongue-in-cheek list were Perth, Hervey Bay in Queensland and Nowra on the south coast of NSW.

Party town Nimbin (pictured above) has been dubbed ‘an anarchic enclave inhabited by feral packs of cannibalistic anti-vaxxer chemtrail conspiracy theorist mountain hippies’
Sh*t Towns of Australia page administrators Rick Furphy and Geoff Rissole said drug use, high unemployment and pollution are the key indicators of a ‘sh*t town.’
‘Congratulations to Logan on being voted Sh*t Town of the Year for the second year running. Winning back-to-back brown crowns and being named the sh*ttiest town in this sh*ttiest of years. Gives yourselves a pat on the backside, Logan!’ the pair said on their page.
‘Common hobbies in Logan include getting sh*tfaced and hitting someone with a bit of wood, committing ram raids in hot-wired Holden’s and inter-generational welfare dependency.
‘A popular venue is the Logan Hyperdome, where flannel-clad rednecks fight to the death over Centrelink payments.’
Nimbin (pictured) finished runner up as Australia’s Worst Town on Facebook page Sh*t Towns of Australia
Adelaide (pictured above) rounded out the top three due to its reputation for being the ‘City of Churches, Pubs and Serial Killers’
Port Pirie in South Australia (pictured) was labelled a ‘seaside smelter town possessing all the charm of a soiled-man nappy’
Runner up Nimbin was also scorched, with Furphy and Rissole describing the laidback town notorious for marijuana as ‘an anarchic enclave inhabited by feral packs of cannibalistic anti-vaxxer chemtrail conspiracy theorist mountain hippies.’
Adelaide was labelled the ‘City of Churches, Pubs and Serial Killers’, while the page felt Brisbane was ‘a notorious cultural graveyard where high art is spray painting d**ks on walls and fine dining is choosing not to use the drive-thru.’
The tongue-in-cheek carnage didn’t end there.
Port Pirie in South Australia was described as a ‘seaside smelter town possessing all the charm of a soiled-man nappy’ while capital city Perth made the cut after a toddler was found sucking on a used condom in a McDonald’s.
Some punters on Facebook felt Logan going back to back wasn’t a big deal, joking they had ‘done the state of Queensland proud’
Brisbane may look picturesque to some (pictured above) but it is also a ‘notorious cultural graveyard where high art is spray painting d**ks on walls and fine dining is choosing not to use the drive-thru’
Hervey Bay in Queensland and Nowra on the NSW south coast also made the cut, with the former labelled a ‘overpriced, overgrown clump of villages held together by endless trailer parks and old people asylums.’
Nowra didn’t emerge unscathed, with the coastal town described as ‘basically the set of a failed Chris Lilley show.’
The list received plenty of amused responses online, with some residents of Logan labelling it a ‘privilege to go back to back’ and that they ‘had done the state of Queensland proud.’
Another punter stated Port Pirie was ‘robbed’, with 2021 the time to ‘improve’ their ranking.
