The man responsible for the Port Arthur massacre has been revealed to be a nobody in prison who trades sexual favours for chocolate.
Martin Bryant ruthlessly murdered 35 people and injured 23 others in his senseless shooting spree at the Tasmanian tourist location in 1996.
Bryant’s actions pushed Prime Minister John Howard to overhaul Australia’s gun laws in a significant moment in the nation’s history, but his infamy doesn’t impress his fellow inmates.
Instead, the 53-year-old has been described by an ex-prison staff member as a ‘big baby’ who rarely speaks and is the laughing stock of the jail where he is serving 35 life sentences.

Risdon Prison, near Hobart, is where Martin Bryant is serving 35 life sentences
‘He doesn’t rate a mention, he’s just another blip on the radar which surprises a lot of people,’ former supervisor Tony Burley told The Daily Telegraph’s On Guard podcast.
Mr Burley spent more than 10 years keeping watch over Bryant at Risdon Prison in Hobart, Tasmania.
He estimates that in that time he has only had about ‘half a dozen’ words with the mass murderer.
The 63-year-old said Bryant, who was 28 when he opened fire at Port Arthur, is now overweight and a shell of his former self.
He spends his days locked in a high-dependence, maximum-security cell made for inmates who require special care.

‘In the unit he was last known to be housed in by himself, the Mersey unit, there may be prisoners in that unit that who wouldn’t even know who he was,’ Mr Burley said.
Since being incarcerated Bryant has been diagnosed with intellectual and social handicaps as well as Asperger’s syndrome.
Psychiatrists found Bryant to have an IQ of 66, which is classified as extremely low.
Mr Burley said Bryant has a sweet tooth and was known to perform sexual favours for other inmates in order to get his fix.
‘He has a love of chocolate and to get extra chocolate, he had to do certain favours,’ he said.
Bryant is serving 35 life sentences for his heinous crime without the possibility of parole.
