“This is a historic day in the life of the Austrians and all European countries,” Curtis said at a press conference today, Sunday, on the occasion of the launch of the vaccination process with the new Corona vaccine in the country, adding, “We were able to conduct the first vaccinations in Austria and all over Europe at the same time.”
“We have been fighting an epidemic throughout the year that has changed almost everything overnight,” Curtis added, explaining that as of today, the date has changed, but the epidemic will not end suddenly, stressing that vaccination is the beginning of defeating the virus and changing the rules of the game.
Curtis indicated that the vaccination campaign will be phased, and there will be a strong focus initially on nursing homes and medical staff, pointing out that after that, the vaccination can be offered to all people in Austria.
For his part, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober said he is convinced that the vast majority of the population will seize the opportunity to get vaccinated by next summer.
The minister expected the approval of other vaccines soon, pointing out that there are still several difficult months with the continued restrictions, stressing that the return to normal life is approaching with every vaccination that is conducted.
