On Wednesday January 13th, a grand concert was held in the Great Hall of the Philharmonia Petersburg with the title “A Gift to Andreev”.
On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the first Russian folk musical instrument group, Vasily Andreev, (1861-1918), who is also considered the first Russian artist to unveil the “balalaika” as a famous Russian stringed folk musical instrument, and present it to the musical world.
The program of the big concert includes folk songs and songs written by Vasily Andreev himself, extracts from the compositions of his supporters of prominent Russian musicians of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the performance of the musical group “Andreev” led by Maestro Yevgeny Khokhlov.

It is noteworthy that, Vasily Andreev, has a great role in promoting the “Balalika” as a folk music symbol of Russia. He was the first to establish the musical performance styles of professional “balalaikas”.
Vasily Andreev and his band made concert tours through Europe and America and visited many capitals of the world, where he presented “balalika” and popular Russian music that quickly spread throughout the world.
As for the maestro, Dmitry Khokhlov, he led the musical group “Andreev” for folk instruments 30 years ago and is still leading it until now.
