Barcelona issued an official statement regarding the Catalan authorities ’storming of the club’s headquarters on Monday morning, and the arrest of Josep Maria Bartomeu, the former president of the club, against the background of the famous” Barsaget “case.
Barcelona said in its statement, which was published on its official website, today, Monday: “Before the authorities entered the offices at Camp Nou this morning, by order of the court, Barcelona offered its full cooperation to uncover the facts in this investigation.”
Barcelona added in his statement, “The information and documents requested by the police are completely related to the case. Barcelona shows its strong respect for the course of justice, and for the principle of presumption of innocence of the persons involved in the case.”
This statement is considered the first official response from Barcelona after the police forces stormed the club’s headquarters this morning, and the authorities arrested a number of personalities, most notably Josep Maria Bartomeu, the former club president.
Units of the Catalan police forces searched the offices of Barcelona club, in what is believed to be a step related to the corruption scandal known in the media as “Barsaget”, which was witnessed by the Catalan giant last February.
Signs of the scandal surfaced last month, when Barcelona contracted with a group of companies to improve its image through promotional campaigns on social media against people and entities believed to oppose Josep Maria Bartomeu, the former president of the Catalan club, who resigned last October.
Police also arrested Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as three others, Oscar Grau, director general, Roman Gomes Ponte, director of legal services, and Jaume Masfriere, an advisor to the former president.
The “Parsaget” case was one of the main reasons for the tension in the relationship between the Argentine star Lionel Messi and the management of Bartomeu, which prompted him last summer to send “Porofax” to the offices of “Camp Nou” about his desire to leave his club Barcelona for free.
