Barcelona were eliminated from the tournament after losing at Camp Nou 3-2 to the German team in the return match in the quarter-finals on Thursday and 4-3 on the aggregate score.
While Barcelona was expecting huge crowd support at its stadium, the ESPN television network said that the number of the visiting team’s fans reached nearly 30,000 out of a total audience of 79,468.
Barcelona said that 37,746 fans were season ticket holders and 5,000 fans were in the amphitheater designated for the visiting audience, while 34,440 fans bought their tickets through other means, and the rest of the audience attended based on invitations from the European Football Association “UEFA”.
“We confirm that the 34,440 tickets that were sold were supposed to be sold outside Germany,” Barcelona said on Friday.
“The club did not sell these tickets to German fans. Those who bought these tickets gave them to German fans. That is clear,” he added.
For his part, Laporta said Barcelona had no role in getting tickets to German fans.
Laporta added, “We do not want what happened at the Barcelona stadium to be repeated and we will take what is necessary. We have decided not to allow the transfer of tickets for international matches that are held on our soil. The club is not responsible for people breaking the rules.”
He concluded, “We have implemented all the required measures to avoid this happening…but there are those who insist on doing so despite the harm it causes to the club, the fans and the club members who came to support him at the Camp Nou.”
