NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama opened up their opening weekend series with a win, defeating the Army Black Knights two out of three. The Lions won the final two games by a combined score of 8-2 with a second game shutout, 5-0. This also marks the best start since the 2016 season when the Lions started 4-0.
SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama has played Auburn six times in team history, but only three have come since 1984. Two previous meetings were at Auburn and one at neutral site Toyota Field in Madison, Ala., home to the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Auburn has won every matchup, scoring eight or more runs in every meeting except the second game in 1976. The closest game came in 2019, where the Lions fell by a tight 8-7 final at Plainsman Park.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: The Tigers are 2-1 this season pending tonight’s result against Troy. Auburn hosted Holy Cross in three games and won the first 4-1, dropped the second 4-2 and then erupted in game three, 14-6. The Tigers were ranked No. 22 in the nation during the weekend and now enter the week at No. 25 nationally. Last season, Auburn finished 27-26 overall with an 8-22 conference record.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: Graduate pitcher Brycen Parrish and senior outfielder Jonathan Lane were named the 2025 North Alabama team captains. Parrish was the top pitcher last season behind the historic Jacob James, appearing in 19 games. He was second in strikeouts with 57 while pitching only 55.1 innings and adding in two saves. Lane offered a .970 fielding percentage with 122 putouts over 133 chances. Lane also nabbed a .271 batting percentage in 214 at-bats, the most on the team in 54 games played.
PITCHING PINGETON, ASUN PITCHER OF THE WEEK: The Atlantic Sun Conference announced senior right-handed pitcher Anthony Pingeton as the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for the first week of the season. Pingeton got the nod to start game three of the Army series this past weekend. In 6.0 innings pitched, he threw five strikeouts, faced no more than three batters through the first five innings, did not allow a run, and finished with an .053 opponent batting average.
CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN: The Lions won 10 conference games last season, the most since entering the Division I era and the first time reaching double digit wins in conference play during that time. The Lions won seven in 2019, did not play any in 2020 due to COVID, six wins in 2021, five in 2022 and eight in 2023.
ROAD WARRIORS: North Alabama is in the process of building Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, which is currently scheduled to be ready in April. The Lions will play on the road and at neutral site venues until then. For more information, click here.
A SLATE OF CHAMPIONS: During the 2025 season, the Lions play three of the four previous NCAA National Champions. North Alabama competes against LSU, Tennessee and Mississippi State on the road while also adding in an SEC road game against Auburn and a neutral site game against Alabama.
