The Chicago Bears (8-3) are heading to Philadelphia for a significant Week 13 Black Friday matchup against the Eagles, but the team’s fantasy football assets present a frustrating puzzle for managers. While questions persist at wide receiver, the most pressing issue is the divided backfield featuring D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.
This running back tandem has created a difficult decision for fantasy managers, as both players carry considerable risk against a tough Eagles defense. The situation has been described as a “hot hand” approach, and in the three games since Week 10, neither running back has seized control.
Over that span in full PPR leagues, Monangai has posted consistent scores of 8.8, 10.7, and 10.8 fantasy points. In contrast, Swift’s production has been erratic, with performances of 14.8, 9.0, and a season-low 1.9 points.
Monangai’s role has been trending upward, and he appears to have secured valuable goal-line touches, significantly boosting his touchdown potential within the Bears’ offense. Swift, however, may still begin the game as the lead back, but his hold on the role is tenuous; a fumble in Week 12 quickly landed him on the bench. His recent 1.9-point performance and the loss of goal-line work have substantially lowered his fantasy ceiling.
The Eagles’ defense ranks 16th in fantasy points allowed to running backs, suggesting there is an opportunity for production. The challenge lies in predicting which Bears back will capitalize.
Given the uncertainty, fantasy managers with more reliable alternatives should consider benching both Swift and Monangai. For those needing to start one, Swift remains the marginally better play. His involvement in the passing game provides a safer floor, making him a slightly more dependable, albeit still risky, option than the more touchdown-reliant Monangai for the Week 13 contest.
