The Israeli army closed all entrances to the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, and dozens of heavily armed soldiers were deployed at the entrances to the town.
The mayor of Beit Ummar Nasri Sabarneh said, “We saw the deployment of many Israeli soldiers and settlers at the entrances to the town and on the main street adjacent to it, and transportation between Hebron and Bethlehem.”
He added, “The soldiers fired tear gas canisters and sounded at the townspeople.”
The siege led to a severe traffic crisis on the road between Hebron and Bethlehem.
Informed sources indicated that the reason was the army’s “belief” that an Israeli had been kidnapped from the Eliezer settlement south of Bethlehem.
