The new season reaches the shop windows with price increases, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), clothing and footwear register a rise of 5.94% during the first half of October compared to the same of the previous year, with which it adds six rises in a row since July.
An analysis prepared by El Economista with data from Inegi, shows that some basic garments such as men’s shirts increased 54% annually in September compared to the same month of 2021, but here the increases range from 0.4% to almost 100 percent. While women’s pants registered an increase of 10%, going from an average price of 594 to 660 pesos.
The rising cost of clothing and footwear, coupled with lower purchasing power, has promoted the idea of a circular economy, to the extent that consumers seek to maintain the use of products for as long as possible through the resale of clothing on the marketplace.
According to data from the latest study published by Capgemini, 34% of consumers used different methods to give their clothes more than one use. Some decided to open social media pages in order to give someone else a chance to wear those clothes before throwing them away.
The study mentions that around 37% of consumers rethought their purchase method and stopped buying under the fast fashion model and began to opt for garments with greater durability and utility, while 34% preferred to repair the clothes that they already had in the store. closet.
“This market reflects a strong opportunity in the face of rising prices and a population that is getting less and less. Marketplaces become an option for nearly 6 million people looking to find new clothes with discounts of up to 80%”, commented Ana Isabel Orvañanos, country manager of Go Trendier.
Ana Orvañanos explained that second-hand clothing presents an opportunity for consumers to reduce their spending and obtain savings, even many of these clothes are new, since they are garments that for some reason they did not wear, much of it bought in online, so they offer it up to 80% below the price they paid, which undoubtedly means significant savings for buyers.

The expert said that in order to make an intelligent purchase in which the price, quality and condition of the garments are balanced, consumers must identify their needs and requirements in order to be able to discern between the product on offer and the price proposed by the seller and even wonder if it’s better to shop at established stores.
To do this, users can start by identifying which garments they prefer to buy in resale or stores, in addition to designating a budget on the maximum cost they are willing to pay.
