Bill Belichick secured his first home victory as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, leading the team to a dominant 41-6 win over the Richmond Spiders. The win at Kenan Memorial Stadium improves UNC’s record to 2-1, a significant turnaround from their season-opening 48-14 loss to TCU on September 1.
Before the game, Belichick, 73, was joined on the field by his girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson.
Following the decisive victory, Belichick acknowledged the team’s performance while noting there was still room for improvement. “Offensively, we made a couple big plays, scored some points,” he said. “And defensively, the goal line stand was a big, big, big series for us… It was overall a good, solid effort. But, there are certainly a lot of things we can still work on and do better.”
The victory marks a milestone in Belichick’s transition to college football. He was hired by UNC in December 2024 after parting ways with the New England Patriots, a franchise he led to six Super Bowl titles over 24 seasons.
Hudson, a former college cheerleader whose relationship with Belichick was revealed in 2024, is also involved in his professional endeavors. She manages his company, TCE Rights Management LLC, which recently faced a setback with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The USPTO refused applications for phrases such as “Do Your Job (Bill’s Version)” and “Ignore the Noise (Bill’s Version),” citing a likelihood of confusion with trademarks previously filed by the Patriots.
The Tar Heels will look to build on their momentum when they visit the UCF Knights next weekend.
