Not all the entertainments of the city of Philadelphia have managed to soften the heart of Ben Simmons. After a summer in which it has been repeated actively and passively that the Australian does not fit into a team where the star is Joel Embiid, the Sixers’ Media Day was a cluster of compliments to the one who is still their player. Highlighting above all the declaration of love of the Cameroonian pivot. But if a few days ago Simmons stood by the expedition to Los Angeles that the team was planning to convince him to stay, today he has settled that he and Embiid cannot coexist on the court.
The person in charge of filtering this sentence has been Sam Amick through an article on The Athletic in which he breaks down the situation of the relationship between player and franchise. To begin with, the player would have described as absurd the statements of Daryl Morey that advocated reconciliation appealing to that of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the NFL. However, the germ of his attitude is in Simmons’ belief that his career will be better away from Joel Embiid. The Australian believes his game will be helped without a presence that blocked the internal corridors that Simmons needs. Obviously the alleged statements are not a personal matter, but merely a sporting one.
It is also interesting the context in which the point guard faced this season and that goes to explain that not everything is due to the episode after the elimination against Atlanta Hawks, although this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Apparently, when rumors still existed about the possible whereabouts of James Harden, Simmons came very close to buying a home in Houston knowing that Morey would prioritize La Barba’s arrival. Obviously, this did not end up giving, and the Australian returned to the routine without wielding any complaint despite being unhappy with the role that Rivers had given him.
Whether or not he has reasons to shut down, it is becoming clearer every day that Simmons’ decision is firm. Every attempt by the Sixers to put plaster on the situation receives a sharp response from the Australian, so they better prepare for the impending war in Philadelphia.
