The White House said in a statement that the two presidents “discussed the worsening humanitarian and human rights crisis in the Ethiopian Tigray region and the need to work to prevent further loss of life and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.”
The United States has expressed concern about the crisis in Tigray, as the Ethiopian government declared victory over a rebellious regional government in the conflict that erupted in November.
And the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Gedo Andergachaw, this week called on the refugees of the Tigray region in Sudan to return to the country, saying that the authorities had begun an investigation into the massacres that occurred during the government forces’ incursion into the region.
