US President Joe Biden, in a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, expressed his hope for stability in the eastern Mediterranean region.
The White House said Biden congratulated the Greek Prime Minister on the 200th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821-1829 that led to the creation of the independent Greece, and affirmed his “commitment to continuing to strengthen the strong bilateral relations between our two countries.”
Biden praised the increase in defense cooperation between Washington and Athens.
“The two leaders agreed to address the issue of climate change and seek a sustainable economic recovery … and they also agreed to coordinate on issues of common interest, including energy security, and the files of China, Russia and the Western Balkans,” the White House statement said.
