The White House announced US President Joe Biden’s decision to extend the sanctions imposed by former President Donald Trump on Cuba.
Among the measures that have been extended are the ban on American ships entering Cuban waters without special permission from the US authorities.
It should be noted that the administration of former US President Barack Obama, in which Biden was vice president, lifted some sanctions on Cuba and took steps towards improving relations between the two countries, including reopening the embassy and the first meeting between a US president and a Cuban leader.

During the administration of Donald Trump, sanctions were re-imposed, as his administration took a more severe stance towards Havana, and Washington imposed additional sanctions on Cuba for its support for the Venezuelan government headed by Nicolas Maduro.
It should also be noted that the trade embargo imposed on Cuba since the 1960s is still in place.
