Biden’s visit to Texas is being planned this week.
For her part, Jane Psaki, a spokeswoman for the White House, said that Biden asked his team to expedite the request of Texas to declare it a disaster area, paving the way for this state to obtain more federal resources.
Millions of people in Texas, the largest producer of oil and gas in the United States, faced power cuts, and nearly half of Texas residents suffered a water cut on Friday. About twenty deaths there were attributed to the recent storm and hail wave that swept the state.
This is the first crisis faced by President Biden, who took office a month ago, and a test of his pledge to rule also in the name of the Americans who opposed his candidacy.
The White House is now working closely with Texas Governor, Republican Greg Abbott, who did not initially acknowledge Biden’s victory in the election last November. In December, Texas state officials tried to nullify Biden’s victory in the presidential election in court, but failed.
