(Trends Wide) — The president of the United States, Joe Biden, will receive a booster vaccine against the coronavirus and will do so in front of the cameras, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki reported on Monday.
Psaki did not mention when exactly President Biden will receive his booster shot, as there are still steps in the process before booster doses are available.
But he said that once those steps are completed, the White House will be ready to launch the reinforcements and the president will receive his vaccine at that time.
“We view Friday’s news as an important step forward in protecting more people and saving more lives. The additional steps now is that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is planning to meet based on your recommendation. Of course, we are prepared to implement the plan, and that includes that the president also receives his booster vaccine, “said Psaki at the press conference this Monday at the White House.
Recommendation on booster doses for those 65 years of age or older
On Friday, vaccine advisers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted to recommend authorization for emergency use of a booster dose of Pfizer’s vaccine. for people 65 and older and those at high risk for severe COVID-19 six months after receiving the first two vaccinations.
However, the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biologics Advisory Committee rejected a broader request to approve booster doses of Pfizer vaccines for all people 16 years of age and older six months after they were fully vaccinated.
Psaki also said that President Biden continues to be tested for COVID-19 regularly and that he tested negative last week.
On the other hand, Psaki didn’t know if Biden had already gotten a flu shot this year, but said he would check with the president’s doctor.
