Bill Gates has bought a 3.76% stake in the Dutch beverage giant Heineken Holding NValthough the billionaire founder of Microsoft he had previously said that he is “not a big beer drinker”.
Gates bought the shares from the Mexican FEMSAwhich is divesting of its stake in the brewery.
The record of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) indicates that the shares were purchased on February 17. Heineken Holding owns a majority stake in the brewer Heineken NV.
In a separate statement dated February 17, FEMSA sold 18 million shares it owned in Heineken Holding. Gates bought 10.8 million shares, worth 883 million euros (about $939.87 million) at current market prices, triggering a disclosure requirement under Dutch stock market rules.
In a 2018 “Ask Me Anything” chat session on RedditGates said that he was “not a big beer drinker”.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundationthe humanitarian foundation set up by the billionaire and his ex-wife, was not immediately available for comment.
