(CNN) — Actor and comedian Bill Murray has addressed the suspension of production on his latest film, “Being Mortal,” following reports of a lawsuit against him.Fox Searchlight informed the film crew in an email last month that the film would be terminated due to an unspecified complaint, but did not confirm that Murray was involved, Deadline first reported on April 20.
On Saturday, Murray attended Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. The actor, who is a shareholder, told CNBC that he had a “difference of opinion” with a woman on the “Being Mortal” set. But Murray said he was optimistic that he and the woman, whom he did not name, could “make amends.”
“We had a difference of opinion; I had a difference of opinion with a woman I worked with. I did something that I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way,” Murray said. “The company, the movie studio wanted to do the right thing. So, they wanted to check everything and investigate it, so they stopped production. But from now on we are talking and trying to make peace.”
The nature of the complaint has not been made public, but Murray said he has been thinking a lot about what happened and that it has been “quite educational” for him, according to the interview he gave to CNBC.
“You know, what I always thought was fun when I was a kid isn’t necessarily the same now. Things change and times change, so it’s important for me to figure that out,” Murray said. “I think the most important thing is that it is what is best for the other person. I thought that it is not what is best for the other person, no matter what happens to me. And that gave me a lot of peace and relaxation because your brain does not work well when you’re in uncertainty, when you think, ‘well, how can I be so…how can I misperceive? How can I be so inaccurate and insensitive when you think you’re being open to some sensitivity that you’ve had for a long time.”
The actor also told CNBC that he hopes to resolve his differences with the woman and restart production on “Being Mortal.”
“What would make me happy would be to put my boots on and both of us go back to work and be able to trust each other, and work on the task that we both spent a lot of time developing our skill at.” Murray told CNBC. “And hopefully doing something that’s good for not just the two of us, but a whole team of people who are filmmakers and the film studio.”
The film, with Bill Murray, Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, and directed by Aziz Ansari, is based on Atul Gawande’s nonfiction book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ansari wrote the script and was also expected to play a role in the film.
Searchlight Pictures did not respond to multiple requests for comment from CNN.
