The Buffalo Bills signed kicker Caden Davis on Friday, addressing a need created by an injury to starter Tyler Bass.
Bass is recovering from a pelvic injury that has kept him out of eight consecutive practices. In his absence, the team has explored temporary solutions, with head coach Sean McDermott confirming the team worked out two kickers on Thursday. During the “Return of the Blue & Red” practice on August 1, running back Ray Davis handled kicking duties, making two of three field goal attempts.
Caden Davis, a 2024 undrafted free agent, was waived by the New York Jets last week. He is expected to take over all kicking responsibilities for the Bills in the interim.
The 6-foot, 200-pound kicker had a distinguished college career at both Texas A&M and Ole Miss. In his final season with the Rebels in 2023, Davis was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker. He set a single-season Ole Miss scoring record with 129 points, connecting on 24 of 29 field goals (82.8%) and 57 of 59 extra points. He also demonstrated a powerful leg, recording 82 touchbacks on 96 kickoffs.
During his two years at Ole Miss, Davis made 42 of 52 field goals (80.8%) and holds the school record with four successful kicks from 50-plus yards. His performance in 2023 earned him second-team All-SEC honors. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M and an MBA from Ole Miss.
