He stressed that civilians, especially children, are paying a “very high” price for the war in Gaza, stressing the importance of avoiding harm to civilians and protecting civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
Blinken considered that “confronting an enemy hiding behind civilians, schools, and hospitals,” as he claimed, has a high cost in terms of civilian casualties.
He said that hundreds of thousands of Gazans suffer from food insecurity and that food and basic materials must enter Gaza without obstacles.

He considered that filing a case against Israel before the Court of Justice would distract from efforts to contain the escalation, despite his acknowledgment that the daily number of civilian deaths in Gaza is “extremely high.”

Blinken also said that he had extensive discussions with Israeli officials about avoiding the expansion of the conflict regionally, especially regarding the situation in northern Israel, and said that Washington and Tel Aviv believe that the diplomatic path is the best way to achieve security.
