The new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the decision to designate the Houthi group as a terrorist organization will be reviewed to ensure that it does not prevent assistance to the Yemeni people.
Blinken told reporters, in his first days as foreign minister, that “it is of utmost importance, even in the midst of the crisis, that we do everything in our power to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen, who desperately need it.”

He added that reconsidering the decision to designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization would aim to ensure the possibility of providing aid to Yemen by American and foreign humanitarian organizations.
The previous US administration had included the Houthis on the list of terrorist organizations earlier this month, with exemptions issued to relief organizations.
The United Nations expressed its concern about Washington’s decision, warning of its consequences on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
