Wicked—the smash hit musical starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—is coming soon to digital streaming.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked opened in theaters nationwide on November 22. An adaptation of the classic 2003 Broadway musical starring Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth, the movie version of The Wizard of Oz prequel stars Erivo as Elphaba and Grande as Glinda.
The logline for Wicked reads, “Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.”
Wicked also stars Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh and Madame Morrible, Jonathan Baily as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose and Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
According to When to Stream, Wicked is confirmed to arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
While When to Stream is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, the site did not note that Wicked’s studio, Universal Pictures, had not announced or confirmed the release date and it is subject to change.
When Wicked arrives on PVOD, it will be available on a variety of digital platforms including Prime Video, AppleTV and VUDU. Prime Video has confirmed the release date and has Wicked up for pre-order for $29.99, which will be the film’s purchase price on PVOD. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less, viewers can expect to rent Wicked for a 48-period for $24.99.
