Bloomberg agency reported that the US President’s administration will submit to Congress a report on Friday on imposing additional sanctions on the “Northern Torrent-2” project, which aims to extend gas pipelines from Russia to Germany.

According to agency sources, the document will include imposing new restrictions on a limited number of Russian companies, and new sanctions will not affect German companies, in a move aimed at preserving US relations with Berlin.
Bloomberg indicated that the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, does not want to impose restrictive measures against Germany, as he considers it important to find a diplomatic solution to the issue, and he also believes that the United States needs to repair the damage to Washington’s relations with Berlin under the president. According to agency sources, the previous US administration in the last weeks of its assumption of power was working to impose serious sanctions on Germany, but it did not succeed in implementing them.
And “Northern Torrent-2” is a Russian project to extend two gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters annually, from the Russian coast, across the bottom of the Baltic Sea, to Germany.
Almost all of the project has been implemented, but it faces obstacles due to US pressure, as Washington threatens companies participating in the project with sanctions.
