Two boat users in critical condition and four serious with bad burns after a vessel explodes north of Sydney

- It is unclear whether they were on the boat – which was engulfed in flames
Two people are in a critical condition and four others are in a serious state with bad burns after a boat exploded north of Sydney.
Emergency services were called to the Hawkesbury River Marina, at Brooklyn, just after 5pm on Sunday following reports eight people were injured during an explosion near Dangar Island.
Two patients are fighting for life while four people are in a serious condition. Two others were treated for minor injuries.
Initial reports indicated four women and one man suffered serious burns to at least 27 per cent of their bodies.

Rural Fire Service volunteers treated the patients at the scene for ‘significant burns’ until paramedics arrived.
Firefighters arrived to find the vessel alight with smoke billowing metres into the air, but have since brought the flames under control.
‘We’ve got some HAZMAT crews en route aswell because there will be a fuel spill associated with the boat,’ Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Luke Unsworth told NewsCorp.
‘This is quite a significant event having five people with significant burn is a significant event.’
Marine Rescue NSW said there was no one on the 28 foot Bertram when it caught fire.
The boat is now reportedly starting to sink.
