The Bank of Japan is considering a future interest rate hike but has not signaled a specific move for October, according to a summary of its recent policy meeting.
The record of the Sept. 18-19 meeting, released Tuesday, quoted one of nine board members as saying, “It may be time to consider raising the policy interest rate again.” However, the summary also noted a cautious approach, stating that due to uncertainty surrounding a slowdown in the U.S. economy, it is “appropriate for the bank to maintain its current stance” for the time being.
