The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was hospitalized on Monday with an intestinal obstruction and may have to undergo surgery, in the latest complication stemming from a stabbing he suffered in 2018.
Bolsonaro said he began to feel unwell on Sunday afternoon after lunch and that doctors inserted a nasogastric tube.
“More tests will be carried out for a potential surgery for an internal obstruction in the abdominal region,” Bolsonaro posted on Twitter, along with a photo of him thumbs-up in his hospital bed.

Vila Nova Star Hospital in São Paulo confirmed in a statement that the president was admitted in the early hours of Monday for an intestinal obstruction.
“He is stable, undergoing treatment and will be reevaluated this morning by the team of Dr. Antonio Luiz de Vasconcellos Macedo. At the moment there is no forecast on when he will be able to be discharged,” he said.
